HIGHWAy One from Steve Otton

Highway One, an iconic film from 1977 about a group of young surfers travelling up and down the coast screening Morning of The Earth.

Anyone that knows Steve Otton, knows he was the guy when it came to touring surf films. Steve was on the road touring Morning of The Earth when he thought of the idea for Highway One.

The first clip from the Steve Otton collection has just hit the site. Highway One is the first ‘acted’ surfing film featuring the likes of Peter Hock, Phil Motteroz, Rob Steen, Kim Bradley and an ensemble of teens living the 70’s coastal youth. With an epic soundtrack and some pretty darn good surfing, we were stoked to be able to rebirth this film.

Thanks to Steve and the National Film and Sound Archive for the opportunity. This film had not been digitised before, making it an almost forgotten film. If you saw it before, it was 46 years ago!

Keep your eyes peeled for some classic, surfer-turned-actor clips coming your way…..

The horse riding sequence. Filmed on Belongil Beach, Byron Bay.

Kim (Fly) Bradley and Phil Motteroz.
