this is our history, lets look after it

The boys posing for Andy McAlpine in Children Of The Sun

We are excited to see so many people sign up and enjoy the remastered footage at The Surf Film Archive. There are plenty more gems coming your way.

This project is bigger than just surfing. It’s an important Australian history project and we are working with the National Maritime Museum, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image and the National Film and Sound Archive to preserve the footage, some of which is over 60 years old.

We’ve purchased a specialised film scanner and teamed up with Elements Post-Production and highly regarded film colourist Billy Wychgel. All the footage is being rescanned from the original negative, or the best quality release print we can find, and we are scanning it to archival quality specifications.

It’s a big job, but this footage needs to be saved for future generations and it needs to be done now before the film decays any further.

We hope that surf lovers like yourself will contribute as you can, but for now we just hope you are enjoying it as much as we are.

Thanks so much. This is our history, let’s look after it.

Do you have film footage from Australian and New Zealand Surfing?

We’d love to hear from you. Please email kade@lightsoundartfilm.com.

Note: The footage has to be on actual film, as we can’t restore tapes or DVDs. We need to get permission from the copyright holders too!
