Distant Shore Featuring Torren Martyn
The Surf film Archive and Headland are taking over The J in Noosa on the 11th of March.
Before Headland takes to the stage for the main attraction, we will be having a special screening of Ishka Folkwell’s latest film ‘Distant Shore’ featuring Torren Martyn.
On a distant shore that faces the full brunt of Arctic winter storms, surfer Torren Martyn and filmmaker Ishka Folkwell find mesmerising surf in the cold dark days of winter.
Produced by needessentials this short film takes you on a journey into the frigid waters of the North Atlantic. Every year the boys head off to remote corners of the world in search of good waves in freezing cold climates to put the latest wetsuit developments to the test in the most extreme elements they can find.
This film portrays how bleak February in the North Atlantic can be, but if all the elements line up in-between gale force winds, blizzards and snow, magic sometimes happens.
Ishka and Headland have an ongoing collaboration much like the one we share. Murray Patterson brings together his crew of deserving musicians to make an original score to Ishka’s beautiful barren cinematography. Come see Ishka’s work up on the big screen on the 11th of March before Headland hits the stage! Grab a ticket below.
Ishka and Torren have been working together for quite some time now and have made a number of beautiful films. Ishka and Torren continue the work of the original surf filmmakers, setting aside the time, applying care and deep thought into what they do, often spending weeks on the road or in remote locations with the purpose of creating something special.
Their work is a continuation of what we do here at the Surf Film Archive and we are stoked at every opportunity to show their films!
